TL;DR: October was a good month: the portfolio gained 1.95%, while the S&P 500 lost 0.93%. YTD, it is at +0.47% against +10.52%, and since December 2021, at +91.46% against +63.74%. Visa and EDV did most of the work, and Reddit lost 36%, most of it after its report. I made my first trades since August: Netflix moved from the watchlist into the portfolio, and I added to Uber. From this issue on, the buy zones follow my Manifest again, and 8 of my 10 stocks are in them.
The track record
In October, the portfolio gained 1.95%, while the S&P 500 lost 0.93%. YTD, it is at +0.47% against +10.52%. Since December 2021, the portfolio is up 91.46% against 63.74% for the S&P 500, or 14.16% a year against 10.58%.
The YTD gap decreased from ~13 to ~10 points in one month. Two positions explain most of October: V gained 15.1% and EDV 6.9%, and together they added ~4 points to the portfolio. RDDT, NVDA, and OPRA took away ~2.5 points.
The comparison with QQQ changed back. In #003, QQQ was ahead since inception. In October, QQQ lost 6.58%, and the portfolio is again ahead of all four benchmarks: +91.46% against +79.59% for QQQ, +69.65% for SPYG, and +66.42% for VUG. The Sharpe ratio is 0.83 (0.82 in #003); beta (0.95) and the maximum drawdown (-19%, 123 days) did not change.
As promised in #003, the final September number is now in the table: -5.14% against -0.45% for the S&P 500. I published -4.62% against +0.36% because those numbers were taken at midday on Sep 30. The last half-day was weak for both.
Analyst’s note:
This time, all numbers are after the close of Friday, Oct 30, the last trading day of October. The “1M” column in the benchmark table matches the calendar month: +1.95% against -0.93%.
